Summer Fun

In Madagascar, summertime (as we know it) is winter.  And this can mean rainy season.  However, the congregants of the Irina Church and Jean are determined to work as hard as possible and get the walls up on the new building.  He updates us regularly with the church building progress.  Currently, they have had to hire brick workers to help build bricks but as of August 12, 2019 there were almost 30,000 bricks finished and ready for cooking (the next step).  Jean and the members of the church there are grateful to share this information with our congregation.  Thus far, they are on track with the plan. See pictures below.

The children are doing fabulously in school.  The two big girls, Clarissa, and Ange, are temporarily living with Jean's sister after her health problem, to be with her and make sure she receives a good care. But, Midjo and the other kids are still living with Jean's family.  However, the girls come back for the weekends. He again, sends his thanks for your support of their education and care while they are under his roof.  He continues to ask us for our prayers for them.

Jean continues to stand firm on the truth of the Gospel and is excited to share that he has now started furthering his education.  He is doing a 4-year PhD program through the Institute for Lutheran Theology based out of Brookings, South Dakota.  It is our hope and goal that sometime in the next 4 years Jean will come visit the school and we can get him to church with us on a Sunday!  Pastor Aaron and the Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran congregation will be supporting him in financially supporting Internet at home so that when he does his coursework at night-time (yes, that's right, night shift PhD work) he can be at the comfort of his home.  He asks for our continued prayers for him and his family as they adjust to this additional chaotic, sleep deprived schedule he will began on August 19th.  However, with God's help this degree will help the people of Madagascar even further as he hopes to teach in the seminary full-time upon completion.
